Space Nails–My Attempt

I saw these amazing nails on Heather at EffiesMakeupBox a few weeks ago and have wanted to do them since. They look amazing! However with my polish binges that have thankfully (for my bank) ceased, I had a stash of untrieds to get through. Now that backlog is gone I figured I’d give these a go.

I followed the tutorial on youtube that is linked in the post. It uses a sponge but I couldn’t find a normal one for love nor money! I don’t know what the hell was going on but of course, as soon as I had finished them there were an abundance of sponges in my house. The only one I could find was waaay less dense than your normal cosmetic sponge and this did affect the overall look but I still like it. The combination of colours is really pretty and I am definitely going to give this another go with a proper sponge when I can!

I didn’t have a purple in my stash that I was happy with so I mixed Mystic Mauve and Tokyo to make a shimmery mid-purple that I really like. I definitely want to have a go making a franken of them. I haven’t posted about my first franken attempt…..it’s for the best.

The technique is basically sponging colour on top of colour alternating until you are happy. I did more of a sponging rather than smudging effect which I will amend for next time. It doesn’t look that purpley in these pictures which is a shame as the colour is so beautiful. This is DEFINITELY one I am going to try again!

Have you tried anything like this? Did you see Heather’s post? I wish it looked as I intended but it is so pretty!

I heart chocolate fingers

Hi guys

I hope you are having a great Easter weekend! How can you have a bad day when you have chocolate fingers for breakfast?!

I want to say thank you for sticking with me, I have had a bit of a shit time lately. I’m not going to be all attention seeking and not say why etc, simply put I don’t want to talk about shiz yet until things are clear in my head!

Anyway this is a bit of a lame post to start back with, it’s just a tag as it doesn’t require any pictures!

I took this from Louise at Affordable Treats…

1. Do you have any pets? Yes, the furry light of my life Vincent Emilio, house rabbit extraordinaire. No doubt he is hunting for my easter eggs as we speak…

2. Name 3 things that are physically next to you? My phone, a bag of crisps and the papers from today

3. What's the weather like right now? Nighttimey

4. Do you drive? If so have you crashed? Yes, twice both last year! I suppose there are only a few people that can say they have shut the M1 : )

5. What time did you wake up this morning? 5am. After going to sleep at 2am. Pissed off doesn’t touch the service!

6. When was the last time you showered? Earlier

7. What was the last movie you saw? Blues Brothers. I hadn’t watched it all the way through before and it is AMAZING! I am on a total Belushi/Aykroyd binge at the moment, there are old Saturday Night Live episodes on one of the Sky channels and I am LOVING IT!!!

8. What does your last text message say? It was from my bestie Angel and it was about bbq’s, being drunk and chocolate fingers. And some guy we used to know who was hot back in the day and I saw him yesterday. How things change!

9. What's your ringtone? Oasis – Half the world away

10. Have you ever been to a different country? Yes… US, France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Ibiza, Tenerife, Tunisia. I think that’s it. It looks like a few but it doesn’t feel like I’ve been anywhere!

11. Do you like sushi? I tried it for the first time the other day and it was good! Not with feesh though, vegetarian. Not sure how I feel about wasabi though.

  12. Where do you buy your groceries? Oh god anywhere.

13. Have you ever taken medication to help you fall asleep faster? No but I do have some hideous teabags that are supposed to help. Cinnamon is horrendous! People have cinnamon chewing gum, WHY?!?!?!?!?!

14. How many siblings do you have? Two, a younger sister and brother.

15. Do you have a desktop computer or a laptop? Lappentoppen

16. How old will you be turning on your next birthday? 24.

17. Do you wear contacts or glasses? No.

18. Do you colour your hair? Yes, it’s been just about everything.

19. Tell me something you are planning to do today... Sort my life out!

20. When was the last time you cried? Earlier this week.

21. What is your perfect pizza topping? Something meaty and spicy. Proper Italian pizza only please!

22. Which do you prefer- hamburgers or cheeseburgers? Cheese makes every food better. Bar none.

23. Have you ever had an all-nighter? Yes back in the day though. Too old for that sheet!!

24. What is your eye colour? Green

25. Can you taste the difference between Pepsi and Coke? Yes. Coke when I’m hungover (would have been useful today!) and Pepsi for everyday.

When I sort my life out a bit posting will resume!!! I hope you are all well : )

Boots Vitamin E Eye Cream

Hi ladies! How are you all? I can’t wait for summer to come and be rid of all this work, I feel like a tortoise with a pile of crap on my back I can’t wait to be rid of! Like coming out of my cocoon if you will…

I know not everyone uses eye cream. I don’t know if there is a set age you are supposed to or there are any signs that suggest you should but I use one morning and night. I have in the past gotten dry patches under my eye area so I use one just to make sure they don’t reappear. Also as I have crazy dark circles I figure if the area is dry they will just look worse and that is probably one of the last things I need.

BootsEyeCreamBootsEyeCream3

For the grand sum of £2.54 you get 15ml of product in a squeeze tube. I got this as I wanted an eye cream for daytime with an SPF which was difficult to find in Boots, for a reasonable price anyway. I don’t need one that is anti-aging just yet, I want moisturisation and SPF in a cream that sinks in quickly.

You can see the description of this cream above. I’d agree that it is light and non-greasy but the rest of it? No. I’ve been using this for a good few months now and haven’t seen any change in puffiness or dark circles. I do only use this in the mornings as the SPF is unnecessary at night and I have an eye cream that takes an age to sink in that I use instead but still, after several months (maybe four) use if it is going to make a change I’d expect to see it by now.

BootsEyeCream1BootsEyeCream2

You can see it is slightly tinted so it doesn’t leave a white cast that some eye creams have done on me.

All in all, this suits its purpose for me. If you require moisturisation and something that sinks in quickly for a great price then this is for you. If you are looking for something heavy duty that provides results then maybe not!

Repurchase: Yes, if I don’t find anything else with SPF that appeals to me!

Do you use eye cream? If so, does it have an SPF? I would ideally like to use a higher SPF than 15 in the summer, I’ll have to have a scout around!

Available from Boots.

NOTD-Maybelline Peach

Have you ever had one of those shades in your head that you know exactly what you want and how you want it to look, it’s the finding it thats the issue? Here is my one of those. Last summer or the summer before I was staying at my boyfriends and while he was working one weekend I went into town with his mum for a bit of a shop. I knew what I wanted. Peach polish, maybe shimmery. After a few hits and misses I picked this one up…

MaybellinePeach2MaybellinePeach3

I used to love this, so much so that when my sister stole it and I thought it had been lost I went and bought a replacement. These days, not so much. I like the shade and all but application is shoddy, it takes an eon to dry and there is brushstroke-o-rama. You can also see tipwear in the photos above, that is just shrinkage due to Seche. That is three coats and thickish ones at that, after two I thought I was done, held them up to the light and there was patches ahoy! I was fearing four coats but thankfully three was enough.

I left it a day but the brushstrokeiness was driving me insane, it just looked messy and unfinished. So after seeing this layered over a similar colour on another blog I thought I’d try OPI’s Teenage Dream from the Katy Perry collection layered over. Et voila!

MaybellinePeach1MaybellinePeach

Much better. In real life you can’t see the brush strokes. The glitter also reflects different colours but it is hideously overcast so I can’t get a good picture of it. This is one coat of Teenage Dream, it is kind of gritty so I will chuck another top coat on it. I will definitely try this layered over more peaches and pinks in the future, I think it looks really cute!

Do you have any recommendations for a quick dry top coat? I am about a third to half way through my bottle of Seche and it is all gloopy and close to the stage when Restore needs to be used but I don’t really want to purchase something to sort out my topcoat that cost 8 quid in the first place. Plus the shrinkage gets on my tits. I also have Sally Hansen’s Mega Shine but that causes just as much shrinkage if not more. My OPI RapiDry mini is my last remaining top coat but I don’t imagine I’ll get much out of that the amount of times I change my nails in a week…….Help!

Empty! Neutrogena Multi-Defence Moisturiser

Hi guys! How are you all? I have noticed my reader numbers creeping up so hello!!!

I have already reviewed this product here but after using it a few months more I thought I’d just share my thoughts.

NeutrogenaMoisturiser1 NeutrogenaMoisturiser

This is the moisturiser for normal/combination skin though there are other types for dry skin etc with varying SPF levels, this is 15.

At the time of writing the review I said that I couldn’t use this on my nose and chin as they are too oily. For literally a few weeks since, if that, my skin was dry enough to warrant using this all over, before long my chin was oily after an hour again and I switched back to using Skin Clear on those areas. This annoys me a bit as my skin is definitely normal to combination. My ‘oily’ areas are nowhere near as prominent as those with oily skin and my ‘dry’ areas are never dry enough to be flaky or red, just slightly tight feeling at most. I feel normal to combination describes my skin perfectly. So it does bug me that this must only be useful to those with a drier normal skin, if that exists. Especially as Neutrogena haven’t included a moisturiser for oily skin in the range.

That aside, the packaging is nice, pump applicator which I know people appreciate and at £7.65 it doesn’t exactly break the bank. It is only 50ml but I found one pump was enough to cover my cheeks, forehead and neck and it did last for a good few months. It absorbs easily and contains SPF.

In conclusion, this is OK. I really find it hard to love as it doesn’t work all over my face despite having the skin it is targeted at. I have been using Olay’s UV fluid for combo/oily skin with SPF15 as a replacement, I will update with how that is going in a few weeks.

Repurchase: No.

As far as I can gather from garbled information on the internets, Neutrogena does not test on animals but is owned by Johnson & Johnson who do. If this is incorrect please let me know!

Can anyone recommend a moisturiser that is suitable for combo/normal skin probably getting towards combo/oily in summer that has a good SPF? 15 is not enough for me in the summer but it took enough searching to find a moisturiser with that much!

NOTD–17 Lasting Fix Sweet Kisses

I cannot get enough of 17’s spring collection! I have both the palettes, both the blushers and now this polish and I am definitely tempted to go back and get the rest of them! I love pastels springtime or not.

17SweetKisses17SweetKisses1

This is the pinky pastel colour from 17, there is also a blue, brown, purple, grey and green according to the Boots website. On me this kind of looks like they nudey mannequin hands that are all the range but a bit more interesting. i have had this on for three days now and just got my first big chip which is pretty good for me. Above is OPI Nail Envy as a base coat, three coats of polish and Seche Vite as a top coat. I could of probably got away with two coats (as always) but I still had a bit of VNL on some nails so added another. I read on one blog that some find these chalky and hard to apply but this one was fine. For £2.99 the price, formula and wear all have me wanting more! Watch this space…

Are you a pastel lover too? I disregard the seasons when choosing my makeup apart from essential changes like moisturiser and base products that can be more suited to different seasons. Colour wise, I don’t care!

Empty! Derma Intensive Firming Body Lotion

Bah! I wish I would include body lotions and cleansers etc in my 10 pan! I’ve got through a few things in the last few days that I wouldn’t consider to count and i am running out of others fast. I suppose that doesn’t change the fact that I don’t have any money to spend on stuff…..Dah well.

DermaLotion1

I got this ages ago in Tesco, I haven’t seen it anywhere else so I don’t know if it is one of their own brands or something… It was around £3 on the shelf but when I got to the till it came up as 76p! For 250ml!

DermaLotion2

I made this big so you can see better, this doesn’t make any outlandish claims to firm your body within a specific timescale but does say it will help tighten and ‘remove fatty build up’s’. First of all, I didn’t use this as often as directed. I do try and moisturise twice daily but more often then not I only moisturise after a shower when my skin is feeling driest and that seems to be enough for me. I didn’t notice any firming or tightening effects probably due to this but I do still like this as a moisturiser.

DermaLotion

It is really liquid, I would say to the same consistency as a cleansing milk or similar. Above is a tiny blob that tried to escape across my hand! It sinks in easily which I love, moisturisers that stay on the skin for a while really annoy me, I like to get dressed and get on with my day! I start with my legs and by the time I have reached my arms and chest my legs feel comfortable enough for me to put my trousers on – win! There is a scent but I don’t really mind that. I do love pretty smelling things but on occasions I’m wearing a great perfume I don’t want anything to compete so this is ideal for that, there is no scent on the skin.

Overall I really like this. It sinks in quickly and aside from the potential for mess from the consistency of this, it’s pretty ideal for me. It moisturises without leaving me feeling clammy (sorry guys, thats an awful word). If I didn’t have a mountain of body lotions and could find this again in Tesco I would repurchase :)

Have you tried anything from this range? Or even seen it in Tesco? I would ask for recommendations for moisturisers but I have about a million in my drawer!!!
