Get The Slinky…?!

Gutentag!

This is only going to be a little un today with the standard shoddy pictures. Partially because my flat has no light and partially because I am distracted by pizza and Poirot…..

Me and liquid liner do not go hand in hand! I have a shaky hand at the best of times and then there’s the eyelash conundrum…curl before or after?! Before and my lashes get covered in liner and it goes everywhere, after and it comes off on the curler undoing all my hard work!

So it is safe to say I don’t have the best experience of them and try to avoid if possible.

Recently however I have been thinking it’s time to pull my finger out and try harder. So this weekend I was perusing my local ‘big’ Boots and saw that the entire MyFace cosmetic range was half price. I’m guessing it is being discontinued or something?! The stand by me was pretty picked over but if there is something you love then get there quick! I picked up the lightest foundation Fair 01 and this eyeliner.

This is Slinky matte liquid liner.

Standard inkwell/brush scenario. I like this brush, I found it not too stiff nor floppy. Even a total newb like me found this easy to ‘draw’ with. I also didn’t need to ‘re-dip’ the brush, the once was enough which I prefer, re-dipping means I am more likely to end up with it all over my face.

You can see it is definitely black, perhaps not the darkest black but enough for me. It looks a little chalky in the picture with flash but it isn’t when worn.

I have only worn this today so I cannot say I have extended experience of this eyeliner. However I have had it on for four hours with no signs of smudging or fading and that has included a sweaty trip to Asda. Nothing like an Asda trip to a) make you feel better about yourself and b) fear for the future of the human race ay? Though that could just be my local…

Here is how I wore it…

I used Urban Decay Primer Potion to prep followed by Verve, Pistol, Blackout and Bootycall from the Naked2 palette. I tightlined my upper waterline with Avon’s Supershock gel eyeliner and then lined my upper waterline with the Slinky liquid liner and winged it out a little. I used MAC’s Select Moisturecover in NW20 under eyes as a corrector then Laura Mercier’s Secret Concealer in 1 to conceal. My brows were ‘filled in’ but obviously not very well with the lighter shade in Urban Decay’s Brown Sugar Brow Box. Mascara is a coat of Revlon Grow Luscious topped with a coat of Soap & Glory’s Thick & Fast (free with Elle this month!)

Flat is a mess, I look like I have bonkeye and my hair looked like ALF’s this morning and hasn’t got much better.

I am also wearing Face Atelier’s Ultra Foundation in 1 Porcelain, Benefit’s High Beam, NYX cream blush in Glow and a smidge of Sleek’s Contour Powder in Light. I did have Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine in 69 Flirt on, which is a new purchase I’m loving, but it’s faded a fair bit.

Ok – long post but the emphasis is – MyFace cosmetics are half price in Boots so if there is something you love or have been interested in trying then go for it – and my first impressions of this eyeliner are good considering application is not one of my fortes.

Peepers–Topshop Bold Liner

Hello ladies!

For once I’m trying to be on the ball and get this post out while there is a chance these badboys might be on sale in a Topshop near you…

When I first picked these up I was unsure if they were pencil or liquid of the felt tip kind. I was kind of hoping for the latter as I love the look of liquid liner but find it a bugger to apply, it always gets over my eyelashes and is basically a pain in the arse. However these turned out to be the pencil kind…

There were no testers so I just grabbed what was there, at £2 each I wasn’t really that bothered if they turned out to be crap.

I wore Burnish today, my first time wearing brown liner woop!

I wore a little along my lash line and smudged under the outer corner of my lower lash line for a bit of daytime smokiness. you can’t tell that much as this is about 9 hours after application but I am wearing MAC Paint Pot in Painterly, Urban Decay Sin over the lid, Chopper in the crease and Smog at the outer edge, Burnish along the lash line and a combination of Revlon Grow Luscious and 17’s Photo Finish mascaras. It is still (just) visible and I don’t think that is too bad for a hastily applied pencil when I was half awake this morning!

I say for £2 it’s worth snapping these up if you see them. I am unsure of the other colours and as I said there were no testers but for £2….why not?

MAC Superslick Liquid Eye Liner - Signature Blue

Despite my recent MAC hoardings (whoring?!) I managed to restrain myself and only purchased one item from the Fabulous Felines collection - this beautiful badboy
Ladies, this is MAC's Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in Signature Blue, part of the Palace Pedigreed Fabulous Felines collection. And I am in love with it.
I haven't had a lot of experience with liquid liners such as this, I have a few coloured ones by Wet N Wild and No7 but I don't use them regularly as I have a tendency to get it EVERYWHERE, in my eyelashes and all over my face. Which makes my lashes go all spiky and then I can't put on mascara, basically it makes it a big old hassle. But right now I'm going through a navy blue shimmery shadow kind of thing, I have been trying to restrain but this was beckoning me. I tried to ignore it but by the time I reached the MAC counter for a concealer after a bad day at work, this and Creme Cup were in my excited little hands!
Instead of a brush it has a sponge tip which I do find easier to work with. It isn't too soft and maintains a degree of stability which makes it much easier for a plonker like me to apply and it makes it easier to build it up from a thin line to a strong effect.
Swatches are with no flash and with flash, click to enlarge and see the beautiful sparkles! They are probably best demonstrated on the brush, SO pretty! I have green eyes and I don't think that blue is supposed to particularly go with them but I don't care!
I have worn this out on a few occasions and it wears beautifully, it didn't fade (although I did wear it over UDPP) and didn't flake, just stayed awesome!
I only had one issue and it wasn't one I noticed at first. The first time I wore this I build up the liner to a stronger winged look. A few days later I tried it again and noticed that it can be patchy, so just a word of warning, it may take a few swipes to get the full effect of the sparkling opaque colour!
Overall though I love this and I am so glad I bought it, I don't think I've seen any product recently like this, though I am talking drugstore, I don't regularly shop at the high end counters. If I ever run out, and it wasn't limited edition, I'd definitely buy again!
Signature blue is £14.50 and is available from MAC counters and the website. I can only apologise for the shoddy camera pictures and the shoddy state of my eyebrows but I just wanted to show you the sparkles! I am yet to do a really dramatic eye with this but I will be soon!
